The economy in every way has pushed automakers to brow beat themselves to conger up ideas to be more competitive. Pushing the envelope from the style, fuel efficiency and technology. In one sense its beneficial for consumers, another sense the competition is fierce between automakers to lure in that buyer. I relish in the thought of companies throwing out their bells and whistles, to me, it’s about time. GM, the world’s largest automaker, is changing their OnStar options. They have reconsidered their leading technology options to now compete with Ford’s Sync. Ford has Sync that is similar to OnStar but not as profound. GM has realized Ford’s Sync is slowly stealing consumers one by one. Ford’s sales show that, that they have an awesome product as well. Cincinnati Dealers revel in the fact that their models have consumers talking, that you do not have to buy GM’s models to get that technology. Options, is what consumers love, well and their money too. This is one of the things that Peoria Volkswagen just do not have.

To compete with Ford, OnStar might offer a few free services. OnStar might be offering information and entertainment services that can link so a consumer’s smartphone. OnStar will be testing the voice to text services and change the emergency response system. Expanding services from the emergency response thus allowing different alerts to activate OnStar. Further studies will show ways to use it out of the vehicle. OnStar is basically finding their niche like Siruis Radio, you can unplug it and take it anywhere. In June, Google and OnStar will join forces and have an option of sending directions to your vehicles. If you map a route out online you will be able to send the turn by turn to your vehicle. It saves time, to the consumers, in the end.

GM traveling down the right path for competition. This definitely grabs the reins once again. GM needs everything little boost they can get to start the profit margin back, making sure the government is paid and all of their debts. If GM succeeds in the restructuring and turns the company completely around, what a statement that will be. The only question will be, did they learn their lesson this time?

Think of one of the most American things you possibly can, and likely an image of a muscle car will pop into your brain. Over the years, the line up at Arizona VW Dealers have offered great fuel efficiency, safety, and stylish designs for an import brand. People might conjure up an image of the older Beetle, but that is about as far as that goes. More than likely, Americans are drawn to the powerful sculpture designs from our American auto making engineers. The curvy sass of a Thunderbird from Cincinnati Ford Used Cars, or the powerful engine roar of the Pontiac Firebird. We are going to take a small journey back through time and look at some of the American beauties that make us proud to be American.

The term “pony car” had to be based on the Mustang from Ford Washington. The great thing about this smaller performance vehicle is that it is affordable for those people on a budget or you can get a totally tricked out and powerful one for a bigger wad of cash. Plus, the newer models are exquisite in their exterior design and reminds us of years ago, back to 1964 when the Mustang was first released. Another model from Ford is the Thunderbird. Sure, the model years early on in production were as stand out in the looks department as the newest model released, but as for the years in between we aren’t quite sure what Ford’s goal was.

General Motors has had their fair share of gorgeous hunks of metal drive the streets. The Pontiac name was only recently discarded, but the remnants of the Pontiac Firebird will forever be a piece of American pop culture. How many movies feature the Firebird? The list is too high to count, but GM has continued the legend with the success of the Chevy Camaro and Corvette.

GM shelled out money to save its Saturn brand before it was discontinued. Saturn models can be purchased from a Sarasota Used Cars dealership near you. GM said in its prospectus which was filed before its IPO that the company paid consultant Stephen Girsky over $1 million in consultation fees as he was advising Saturn on how to save the ailing brand before GM let it go. GM discontinued Saturn after no feasible options remained for the brand, however previously owned GM models like Saturn GMC and others can still be purchased from Used Cars Indianapolis dealerships and many others.

Also check your local VW Dealer for deals on great Volkswagen models that have been continued throughout the past 10 to 20 years. The consultant’s name is Stephen Girksy who is now a director at GM. The GM and Saturn engagement began in 2009 and was completed before Girsky was added to the board. With the Saturn agreement and the GM agreement that split the company into the new and old GM, Girsky was required a fee of $1 million.

Girsky was the president of SJG, a consulting firm, and while president he received advisory fees of $400,000 in 2009 that were related to Saturn. GM attempted to hire the expert consultation services of Girsky and perhaps other individuals in an effort to save the brand. Girsky was also an adviser to the former chairman Ed Whitacre from December of 2009 to February of 2010.

Girsky is now working at GM on the board of the company, and he has been integral to helping the company turn around from its poor performances in past years. GM is looking to make a substantial profit this year and the next few years will determine how the company emerges from bankruptcy and whether it will continue to be viable in the long term. GM will hold an IPO later this fall to help raise money for the company.

There are a lot of specials going on right now at Peoria VW, and GM is undergoing major changes. It is unlikely that the recent decision for current CEO Ed Whitacre is ready to step down and hand the reigns over to Daniel Akerson has anything to do with GM’s hybrid sales being down for July 2010. The cause is not clear, but the board at General Motors told Whitacre that he either needed to vacate now or plan to stick around for a good few years to help with the initial public offering. Consumers shouldn’t worry, the changing of CEOs should not affect GM production or the service they will get from Cincinnati Chevy Service, one of GM’s brands. The IPO is going to require a lot of time from the CEO and there will be many press conferences and the stress of the whole project would take its toll on 68 year old Whitacre.

The push for needing someone with the ability to stick around for a while has to do with the $50 billion taxpayer bailout the U.S. Government helped General Motors with. After that bailout, the U.S. Government owned 61% of the company! Ford Motor Company has undergone their fair share of financial distress, but sales are up at Philadelphia Ford now that their quality and reputation are on the rise. Akerson is set to take over on September 1st as CEO and will be chairman by the end of this year. GM has a goal to earn between $12 and $16 billion to begin paying back the government to regain ownership. The new quality vehicles that GM is coming out with should make that goal relatively easy to achieve.

After discussion among bankers and board members, it was agreed that there wasn’t time to go outside the company to hire, so Akerson seemed like a good fit. The board was notified August 10th that Akerson will be both CEO and chairman, and it is his intention to remain with General Motors for at least three years.

With import spots like Hyundai Kia Green Bay popping up across the nation, the competition in the automotive industry is tighter and more fierce than ever. You can visit your local Volkswagen Dealer to check out some German auto styles; the Passat and Jetta are hugely popular in the United States. And while Saturn sales in the United States are not doing the best they ever have, you can still get your car taken care of at Jersey City Saturn Service. For those of you who are trying to solely support the American economy, you should familiarize yourself with the American auto makers; General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford. What is interesting is the brands that our Baby Boomer generation might be familiar with and recognize as All-American (Mercury, Lincoln, Cadillac) still retain their All-American founding; now they are subsidiaries of the three auto giants that call America home base.

General Motors, aka GM, originated in 1908 and its headquarters are in Detroit. GM currently does business on a global scale with its products sold in 34 countries. It is interesting to note though that it has business partnerships in 140 countries. You may recognize some of the GM brands and be interested to know that they are all part of the family; in alphabetical order, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall, and Wuling.

Chrysler is officially known as Chrysler Group LLC, and is composed of Chrysler and Fiat. Under the Chrysler umbrella consumers will find Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles. Under the Fiat umbrella you will find Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia, and Maserati.

Ford Motor Company is based out of Dearborn, Michigan. Their vehicles are manufactured and produced on six continents, and there are 80 manufacturing plants globally. Under the Ford umbrella are the brand names Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Volvo.

The Nissan Frontier Inventory should not be any match for GM’s plans on creating a new Chevrolet pickup truck to be exported to foreign markets. You definitely will not be able to get this truck-in-the-making at any Lexington Toyota or Peoria VW dealer, as the midsize truck is planned on being manufactured in Thailand and then exported to Southeast Asia and Europe. This will be GM’s first attempt at entering these foreign midsize pickup truck markets.

GM is not the only company increasing their levels of production in Thailand; Honda and Nissan are also raising their levels of production to meet the growing foreign demand for their products. Their goal for the first year is a modest 100,000 vehicles, and production will be concentrated in Brazil and Thailand where the midsize truck market has already grown to self-sustaining levels. Despite an initially high cost of about $467 million to get the Thailand truck production plant up and running, the demand is high enough. Production in Thailand has doubled already and we are only halfway through 2010.

The Detroit automaker should feel safe that their investment will make for a handsome return. The Finance Ministry of Thailand recently upped its economic growth prediction for 2010 as their exports continue to increase and continue to have high demand. GM also has plans for a diesel-engine production facility in the eastern Rayong province. This diesel-engine will be in the new Chevrolet truck GM plans on creating.

Overseas production is gaining popularity. It makes sense to make the vehicles in close proximity to where they will be sold so that delivery fees are reasonable. The Southeast Asian market is offering tax incentives to consumers for purchasing new vehicles. GM joins Ford and Honda plants already in operation, supplying the large Asian market. Additionally, GM hopes to open a plant in Indonesia to produce a passenger vehicle with the capacity to seat seven. The new plant is still in the works, will likely cost around $100 million, and is set to open within the next two years.

GM has come out with a lot of great things, and one of them is their homogeneous charge compression ignition. However, there were problems with it in the past because it didn’t really handle speed very well. Now it runs from idle up to sixty miles per hour, which is a tremendous improvement from where it was. Doug Henry Chevrolet is excited about this, as are Cincinnati Chevrolet dealers. Ford dealers aren’t as happy.

The idea behind these is to lower the volume of air, which will raise the temperature. When that happens fuel will combust spontaneously. This is a great idea in theory but there were some serious problems with it. Getting the pressure, temperature, and air/fuel mixtures just right was a big issue for GM. The engine became damaged after a while, and even before that occurred the engine was often noisy.

There was a narrow band of speed and acceleration where the engine would work in the homogeneous charge compression mode. Other than that, it worked in the standard mode, which had little to do with what the engine was designed for. Now that adjustments have been made, though, the engine runs properly all of the way up to sixty, which makes a big difference to those who discounted this car in the past. You get a lot more fuel efficiency from an engine like this – usually around fifteen percent more – and you also get a lower price than you would for a hybrid.

Now Hummers have the reputation of being pretty sweet. Consumers like the seating, the styling and the social signia that it gives off. The Hummer has made some changes through the years to suit fuel economy a little better when the prices were high. The sales also took slope downward so Hummer had to do something. They have this H3T and its a mix of both worlds. Hummer style and glory but with a truck also. Hummer has its own place in the auto world but Ford Dealers and New Jersey Dealers have great competition that sometimes can lead consumers more toward their trucks.

Hummer H3t has excellent off road capabilities. If you need serious off roading vehicle, this is the one for you. Now, if you are going to drive it everyday, its gonna get ya. Hummer H3T does have a five star frontal crash rating and four star rating for passenger frontal impact crash test. It even received five star protection for rear passenger protection. It even comes standard with side curtain airbags , antilock brakes, stability and traction control. The inside is impressive too, with the comfortable seats and the reliability of the hardworking materials, can relieve the stress in the area when looking for dependability. It can sit five people out of your crew if needed, has a five foot bed, that’s enough room to haul any needed tools.

If you need a military styled mean looking vehicle, the Hummer H3t is one to check out. If you need a truck that can go off road, this Hummer H3T is definitely one that can handle it. This Hummer H3T is certainly one that can live up to its name, but just remember with everything, you pay for name and reputation. Is the Hummer H3t a Hummer or truck? It’s both and what more you could you ask for in a vehicle?

One of the best cars that are discontinued is that of a Pontiac G8. One of GM’s decisions after they received the bailout was to shut down the Pontiac line all together. Since the inception in 1926, Pontiac has been known to deliver vehicles with both performance and value. The G8 is among the many vehicles that Pontiac makes and one of the best in the market. Some say its tragic that this vehicle is not going to be an option and Emunds says “At G8 price point, the Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger twins are the only other roomy, rear wheel drive, full size performance sedans available.” They are definitely worthy competitors but the Pontiac G8 has a sporty look to it also. Some have diverted to the Ford Mustang for the retro style of the muscle car but the G8 trumps it by the power, back seat comfort and quality of materials.

If you are looking to purchase one, you may want to consider it soon. Pontiac G8 does come with one of the best warranties around, 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain with no deductible, Roadside assistance and Courtesy Transportation. The safety measures in this vehicle is well thought out. All wheel drive, Stabilitrak, Driver Information Center, Daytime Running Lamps, Tire Pressure Monitoring (which is ideal for woman) and Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror. There some other options also, Pontiac has an option for the safety cage construction and of course the OnStar option. Now, almost any Chevy dealer will assist in locating one, Cincinnati Dealer and Jersey City Dealer will definitely lead you in the right direction. With General Motors shutting down Pontiac, getting a good deal is within reach. Keep in mind with this decision the Pontiac will depreciate but if you plan on holding on to your G8, it will not be an issue. Just like any other vehicle that they stopped production, its worth more now then they were back then. This could be your smart choice for a new vehicle between performance, looks and warranty, and also a worthy investment. Especially, when the grand kids say, gosh I would love to have that car.
