The Ford Focus, a safe bet.
The Ford Focus has been an entry-level car for Ford, and was introduced in 2000. In the designing process, they initially meant it to be a “world car” meaning they wanted it to be the car sold all around the globe, as well as by Columbus Ford Dealers. The Ford Focus has done reasonably well, but not well enough that Ford didn’t think a refreshing of the cars model was necessary so in 2008 they tried a re-appeal to consumers and European markets especially. However, the revision did not do much for the consumers dislike of the exterior styling, nor did they solve the problem for the small backseat for its class.
The Ford Focus has been ranked #18 out of 35 in affordable small cars by US News and has earned a 7.7 in overall ratings, and leading with a 9.2 in safety. Yet safety is about all the Ford Focus has after looking at the average score of 7.5 in all the categories of: performance, exterior, interior, and reliability. Reliability and exterior were its lowest ranking scores.
It is safe to say that the Ford Focus is a nice car in its own way. However, “nice” isn’t exactly what consumers are looking for. About the only thing the Ford Focus can offer aside from other cars is an alternative from more expensive foreign cars that a lot of us can’t understand, nor afford. So consumers play it safe in buying from a company they can recognize, and engines that aren’t mysterious.
