The Ford SYNC is a factory-installed, in-car communications and entertainment system developed by Ford and Microsoft. It is based on the Microsoft Auto platform. The system is currently offered on 12 different Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles in North America, starting with the 2008 model year and many are available at a New Hampshire Ford dealer.

The SYNC includes many features and since it does so much most people don’t realize what all it can do. So here is a list of what all the SYNC can do;

• It can give you Traffic Alerts, Turn-By-Turn Directions, and Information Services about the weather, sports, news, and 411 business search.
• 911 Assistance.  For example, in the event of a serious accident with an air bag deployment,  the 911 Assist feature will make a direct call to a local 911 emergency operator for you, if not manually canceled within the 10-second window that allows the driver or passenger to decide whether or not to cancel the call, Cincinnati Ford dealers say this is really helpful.
• Vehicle Health Reports, after setting their personal preferences online, users can access free car reports at any time using SYNC.
• It even comes with voice-activated hands free calling! Using the “Push to Talk” button on the steering wheel allows the user to access anyone on their mobile phone’s contact list by voice command.
• Uninterrupted connections, pushing the “Telephone” button on the steering wheel will automatically transfer a current telephone call to the SYNC system without having to hang up and call again
• Another awesome feature, especially for teens, is audible text messages. SYNC can convert text messages to audio and will read them out loud.
• Advanced calling features,  SYNC displays the same features as the mobile phone used, such as caller ID, call waiting, conference calling, a caller log, a list of contacts, a signal strength icon, and a phone battery charge icon.
• Voice-activated music,  SYNC allows you to browse through music collections by genre, album, artist, and song title using simple voice commands.
• The SYNC also includes instant voice recognition which allows users to avoid programming or reading aloud scrips for SYNC to recognize their voice.
• Concord Ford dealers say that this feature isn’t really necessary but it cool none-the-less and that is ring tone support. The SYNC will play personal ring tones assigned to identify specific callers.
• It even comes with automatic phone-book transfer, the SYNC will wirelessly transfer the names and numbers in your mobile phone-book automatically.
• And finally for all of you multi-linguists the SYNC is fluent in American English, Canadian French, and Mexican Spanish.

It is known that Apple was really into a closed box approach when it came to the iPhone, but no one had any idea it was THIS closed. At a Ford Fiesta press event, Ford engineers confirmed that the upcoming MyFord Touch, which is the latest version of SYNC, will not interface with the iPhone until 2011 which has probably gotten some Concord Ford dealers in a huff.

Apparently, Research in Motion which are the makers of the Blackberry and Google which are the makers of the Android OS, both embraced Ford’s recently announced AppLink initiative, which allows smartphone apps to link to the car and be controlled by the same controls as the primary SYNC platform which at least gives Tilton Ford and Cincinnati Ford dealers something to cheer about.

By working with engineers at Google and RIM, Ford has developed to separate APIS, which app developers can use to quickly get their apps working with MyTouch. Ford engineers tell us that Pandora, the internet radio service, got their app fully Ford-ready in only 3 days on the Android platform.

So what about iPhone, the third place player in the U.S. market? Well, iPhone wont be supported for a full year more. When pressed for more information, Ford’s engineers revealed that this was because Apple was requiring it to install special computer chips in vehicles to let the MyTouch system know that it was dealing with “trusted apps”, ah just like Apple to make everything safe AND complicated. So despite having fully working demos, Apple won’t let Ford into its circle of trust until the vehicles get the special authentication chips.

33,000 Ford and Mercury vehicles are being recalled. The government says a faulty front seat manual recliner gear might make the seat back and head restraint move backwards in a crash which can cause injury. The following vehicles need to be taken to a dealership immediately for a free fix; 2010 Ford Fusion, Explorer, and Explorer Sport Trac.  Also affected are the 2010 Mercury Milan and Mountaineer. All of these vehicles were built between mid-December and early February before a quality problem with the seat part was discovered at the plant.

Ford says they will issue letters to car owners in May. In February, Ford separately announced it would fix software in 2010 Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrids to cure a problem that can make drivers think the brakes have lost stopping power.

Ford’s move followed a disclosure by Consumer Reports that its testers had experienced a loss of braking power while driving a Fusion, with brake system warning lights illuminated. The car coasted to a stop, Consumer Reports said, and after the driver switched the engine off and restarted it the car returned to normal.

Recall announcements have attracted greater notice in recent months as Toyota Motor Co. has had to recall of millions of its best-selling vehicles for quality problems, including reports of sudden, unintended acceleration.

So in any case, maybe if you don’t want a recalled vehicle check out Chevrolet they haven’t had any recalls lately.

Your Ford Mustang is a true pony car. A coupe with class and no other car on the road is like it. Heck, GM abandoned the Camaro and Firebird while Mustang sales continue to surge. Could it be that Mustang owners know a good thing when they drive it? You bet! Still, maybe you have considered ways to ratchet up the performance. Well lets see. Every car comes with a computer chip – much like the one the central processing chip that powers your computer. Your stock chip helps to regulate a bunch of things including fuel flow to your engine, horsepower, torque, etc. Unfortunately, stock chips aren’t maximized for performance so the chip you get isn’t necessarily conducive to enhancing power.

A Superchip or “Super Chip” puts the muscle into your chip. Either through completely replacing your current chip with a performance chip or sending out your chip to be modified, the end result is a tiny little device packed with more power. In actuality, the power isn’t in your Ford Super Chip, instead it is in the instructions that the chip contains.

The Super Chip is modified to help boost horsepower, increase torque, and raise fuel mileage. So how can fuel mileage improve…shouldn’t it actually drop with more power? Well, the short answer is no. Because a superchip works to fine tune your engine, a better tuned engine requires less fuel. Because a super chip manages to work so precisely it can deliver on all three areas – better horsepower, more torque, and improved fuel economy – without compromise. This means you get a more potent car that is also more fuel efficient.

So, back to the original question: are they worth it? Well, that is for you to decide. However, if keeping your current car is your goal then for a few hundred bucks a super chip is a smart idea. No need to trade your car in for a new, pricey model. Simply take your existing car and supercharge it. And most importantly technology is rapidly evolving. Many new models, more full hybrids, and even plug-in hybrids are reported to be in development. Car makers are looking for lighter batteries that hold more power. Consumers might want to wait to see what is available in the next few years before plunking down cash for a hybrid now. Some wonder frivolous things like, how many parts are in a car?  Well, it has at least two different answers. If you consider parts like bolts, screws, welds, parts not moving, wiring bulbs, its over ten thousand.  If you are just considering “parts” like a partsman or even that of a mechanic then its five thousand to seven thousand.  Now, some people do not care about frivolous things like that because they have an awesome service departments like that of Tarboro Dealers, Jersey City Dealers and Cincinnati Dealers, so they do not wonder because they have trust in them.  I, too, had a relationship with my service department from routine maintenance to some issues I had with my vehicle.  I knew his first name and he always called me by my proper name.  It did pay to be consistent, for me, because I had to squeeze a situation in my schedule and he bent the rules a little for that.

With saying all that, for all the car parts, and we will go by that of an auto mechanic, the five to seven thousand parts, that many can break down.  Not such a good thing if you are traveling or on your everyday travels to and from work.  Taking it in to an average, in city auto mechanic, well can cost you more than you want.  Sometimes, they do not know what they are doing with your make and model vehicle, which creates the snowball effect for having or creating more issues.  If your vehicle comes with a warranty, its a stress relief, for some of us that have to pay, its stressful.  I believe if you take it to your service department they can be held more accountable if something isn’t working properly.  They represent that make so they should be specialized in it to know the vehicles in and out.  There were times that a recall has come out that you might have not heard of yet, and they go to  replacing it for you.  That’s consideration on not wasting your time and to me that’s service.

Starting at $27,835, the 2010 Lacrosse CX will deliver 255 horsepower and 217 lp-ft of torque using a 3.0 L direct injection V6 engine, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
